JudasFavre.com making dreams come true?
**** Of the hundreds of e-mails we received last week (and thanks to the lady that called us immature cockroaches, that was touching)
the one posted below touched our heart the most. This serious fan’s (or lunatic’s?) dream is to have Brett read the e-mail he sent me. His thought process went (and what-evah but go with it people) that Brett at some point would stumble upon our site and if we posted his e-mail to me Brett would read it. And apparently this is his life dream. Who are we to ruin dreams? So posted it we did. Judasfavre.com is all about making dreams come true. So, here you go Mr. Zimmerman. And you don’t have to say thanks, but we do encourage you to buy a t-shirt.

Dear Joel,
Hi, my name is Ross and I am a long time die hard heavy duty Packers fan. Seriously, I not only have a foam cheesehead hat, but a giant foam cheese wedge that covers my entire body. That said, I’m from Chicago. That said, I wore the giant cheese suit, complete with hat, to a Bears Packers game at Soldier. Below is my take on the Favre issue. I know it’s long, but I’ve tried to be as detailed, fair, and analytical as I could be in assessing this situation. I’d really love to share it, and don’t know of a better way than to share it with you, and hope you find this intelligent enough to post on your blog. (Brown nosing side note: I do read your blog, regularly, and am interested in a t-shirt. However, as a loyalist, I refuse to buy one until Favre actually steps on the field as a Viking. There’s still time). Anyways, here goes it. It’s super long (sorry) but hopefully engaging and well written enough to keep interest. You’ll see in the last paragraph I’m also kinda hoping this’ll make it to Favre which is just absolutly ridiculous. However, I feel that maybe, just maybe, if he hears or reads something that makes sense, he’ll have second thoughts. Just saying. I think it’s worht a shot. Thanks Joel, and keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Ross
Look, as far as I see there’s one reason Favre wants to come back: HE WANTS TO WIN. I’ve read a lot of these forums and a lot of these comments and up until this point I’ve kept silent. Here’s my take: First off, you should know I’m a die hard pack fan, so that’s my bias, take it for what it is. Now lets look at the big picture:
It’s now clear that Favre left the Packers because he had beef with the front office. He didn’t feel Ted Thompson was aggressive enough in the free agency and wasn’t putting together a team good enough for him to win a Superbowl. I love Ted and disagree with this sentiment, but a lot of people feel that way and I’m assuming Favre is one of them, especially after the whole Randy Moss fiasco the season before he retired (the first time). I believe that Favre initially retired because he truly wanted to retire. He had an amazing career in GB and felt some closure by making the championship game. His last pass, however, was the interception that cost the Pack the game and he didn’t want to go out that way. He knew that if he did come back, it would be super bowl or bust, go out with a bang mentality. The Packers organization, as it is set up right now (focus on the long term) does not support that, so he decided to pick a new team, probably a bit begrudgingly since he felt he put a lot into GB and they did not want to help him have his grand finale season. Most importantly though, Favre doesn’t want attention and he’s not an egomaniac. In fact, throughout the entire Vikings fiasco he’s kept very very quiet and so have the Vikings organization until very recently. Favre doesn’t want this to be a big deal, ESPN does, so don’t buy into that take. ESPN is a sensationalist media outlet just like Fox or NBC.
That’s the nice part, here’s the corollary: As of last year, with Favre as a Jet and with the massive penalty in place if he were to be traded to the Vikings, THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY FOR FAVRE TO MAKE IT TO THE VIKINGS: AND HE’S DONE IT. Seriously, he found a loophole and if you think for one second he didn’t plan and think this out with someone, probably Bus Cook, you’re wrong and here’s why: First off, the trade penalty originated because Favre was rumored to have been talking to the Vikings after Retirement 1. We know now that this is most likely true. I would like to suggest that Favre’s second retirement was a fraud. He did not really want to retire, his real goal was to be released, which by the way, no one who retires asks to be released, that should have been your first hint that something was not right here. If and only if Favre was released could he end up in this situation, in position to be the Vikings starting QB. This is what he wanted. Look at the facts: again Favre closed the season poorly, blowing the last few games and failing to launch the Jets into the playoffs. Maybe he retired because of his arm injury and the whole Vikings deal was an afterthought, but there are still under the table dealings going on here. He still wanted to be released in order to get around the trade penalty specifically put in place to prevent this situation.
I don’t believe Favre is trying to screw anybody. I do not think Favre specifically chose the Vikings to spite GB because he was still angry. If anything this was secondary to his primary motivation. Favre picked the Viks because, lets be honest here, they’re a very well rounded team whose only major need is a QB. They have a super-star running back, good WRs, a great O-line to protect him, and most importantly, they recently acquired really good defensive support, especially along the D-line which is tantamount to stopping the run-game and getting QB X back on the field (also Superbowls. Say what you want, the better defensive team usually wins. That’s why that Pats lost and that’s why the Cards lost, so on and so forth through history typically). That said, Favre wanted to be a Viking and has felt this way for at least two years, since he really retired the first time. Lets face the facts, Favre just wants to win and he believes the Vikings is the place to do it. That’s all.
Is he still a traitor to the Green Bay Packers? Of course. He’s spitting in their face by playing for a division rival and everyone knows it. Granted players change teams inside their own division all the time. Bernard Berrian (Vikings/Bears) did it not too long ago. But Favre is different. Not only has Favre played for the Packers longer than most of the other intra-divisionally traded players, but he is also a face of the franchise. Favre and the Packers have become synonymous in recent years and that is why this hurts.
Now, we get to have our laugh. Will Favre be good enough to take the Vikings to the Super Bowl? We don’t know. These things are extremely hard to predict. If you told me the Cardinals would be in the Super Bowl at the beginning of last season I’d laugh a little. Random teams come out of nowhere every season to compete and that’s why we love the NFL. Parity. So what can Favre do for the Vikings? Well for one, they’ll have to pay him a ton so they’ll probably have to drop a decent player or two. Where is Chad Pennington now? Oh yeah, he just made the playoffs with a previously 1-15 team! (granted other things are at work here but still). Point is, Favre probably won’t stick around more than a year, two max, and that means that the Vikings will be hurting next season. Whoever they trade, they will be without plus a quarterback. Now, this is all regardless of how Favre performs. Take it or leave it, we all know Favre’s getting old and his performance is on the decline. His interceptions have been at an all time high in recent years. I’m not saying he will do poorly, I think we all know Favre will do great as a Viking whether we want to admit that to ourselves or not right now. What I’m saying is that all those Viking fans screaming about SUPERBOWL!!!! in all caps and obnoxious like that are just being naïve. Favre wants to win, but there’s no guarantee. There never is and never will be. HE SEES HIS SHOT AND HE’S TAKING IT. THAT’S ALL THAT IS GOING ON HERE.
Last but not least, Favre, if you are reading this, I think I have been pretty fair in my assessment of what is going on. I’ve tried to support my conclusions as best I can with evidence and keep my very clear bias out of it. Whether you intend to or not, the people you are going to hurt most with this trade are your FANS. I know I do not stand alone when I say, not your legacy, but my respect for you will be marred if you go through with this trade. I can’t root for you in purple like I did when you were in dark green. I’m sorry. As a real fan (vs. fair weather) I have loyalties. My loyalty is to Green Bay. Whose is yours to? Yourself? Your family? Your GM? Your coach? Your team? Your fans? Your legacy? Do what makes you happy, but at least consider all those who have supported you throughout the years, and please, PLEASE, don’t make us feel foolish for putting a number 4 up on the walls of Lambeau Field. You’ve had a great career, we’re proud of you, and we understand you want to win. If you’re going to do it, do it the right way: You’re a Jet now. They traded big to bring you there. Don’t spit in their faces too.

he’s playing for himself and you guys need to understand this, he wants to win thats all. he doesnt want to spit in your faces. HE JUST WANTS TO WIN!
Ross,
There is no trade involved here, he’s coming out of release/retirement, which won’t cost the queens anything but coin.
But good read.
LPYI-see Joe Buck interview!
Wants to stick it to TT, thats spewing!
Sorry for being unclear. I realize there is no trade going on between the Jets and the Vikings. The trade was between the Jets and the Packers and what the Jets will be losing, if Favre returns and plays for another team, would be the value of having Favre at quarterback. I feel that one of the greatest injustices of this situation is that the Jets traded to receive Favre and now, because they were dumb enough to agree to release him, the Jets will be unable to get anything in return for him.
SPIT IN FACE? I don’t even think he gets he IS spitting in our face. That is how pathetic he is! Screw him. I just bought a shirt. In 1998 he mentioned he would soon hang it up and then “played” the Pack and his fans for years.
I am a packer fan and also a Favre fan he gave the packer organization and their fans 16 yrs of his career what gives the fans the right to call him judas the packers traded him, he didnt want to leave. He has every right to play for whoever he wants and if anyone should be called “judas” its the fans who turned their back on him. He gave it his all while with the packers. I just think the fans who are mad he might sign with the vikings are worried he might beat the pack. Its time for you all to wake up and smell the coffee this is not a communist country we have the freedom to work for whomever we chose.
and we have the freedom to call him a traitor that he is and buy a shirt. thanks cindy for whatever you are dreaming about. he didn’t want to leave… well he sure didn’t want to play for us!
Cindy,
Who on here is saying he can’t play for whoever he wants? We don’t have to like it. And calling him a prima dona, a diva, a ecotystical maniac hell bent on revenge or “Judas” is our free right. Just like it is my right to say that your post and your apparent love affair with Favre is laughable.
No one is scared of him, get over it. Too much evidence is on the table detailing his true intentions for playing. Soon, your idol will be once again shown for the true “me first” punk he has been his whole career.
Try again……
for one thing he isnt my idol and i am a packer fan first. why so bitter? Does his choices directly effect your life at all. Then you shouldnt worry about it. I sure dont if he signs with the vikings more power to him but i sure as hell am not going to call him a traitor. Once again i will say its the packer fans that turned their back on him that should be called judas. No one asked you to cheer him on, but to call him names is childish to be pissed because he moved on to a division rival is childish. I guess you have the right to act that way though.
I was born and raised in Green Bay and have been a Packer fan all my life. I now live out of state, get the games on DirecTV Sunday Ticket and was sad when Brett went to New York instead of playing for Green Bay another year or two. But, the plain simple fact is that all this whining and bitterness over Favre is just childish. I always thought being the greatest fans in the world made us better than this. I for one honestly wish him the best if he plays for the Vikings. I much prefer the thought of beating them with a quarterback like Favre on their side than some unknown, unproven no-name. And, if by some unlikely chance they beat us and make it all the way to the Big Game, I’ll be rooting for him, not the Vikings.
Mike, you sound so sad. They sell black arm bands here, that shows your sadness. It is sad. So Go buy an armband, they are only $4.50. But it is also wrong. He is trying to get back at the Pack. Traitor!
I see Favre is up to his old tricks. He thinks it’s great fun to keep everyone on pins and needles waiting for his great decision to play or not. Once again, let’s put all the attention on Favre and not the agony that all the coaches have to go through with planning. This scenario is getting so old!!! Once again there is no I in team.
Mr zimmerman : or should we say ms
as for full disclosure shouldn’t u have mentioned your cheesehead bra.
Favre is nothing more then a has been who has ruined his rep by screwing two soon three teams with his egomaniacal bs. Guys on the jets pray to line up against him and show him the love. He wakes up and reads about himself (no doubt getting help with the big words)
I’d live nothing more then for him to sign so our own almost hasbeen urlacher gets one more chance to pummel his butt. But then again if they play after the third game he will be on IR so may not get the chance.
Remember there’s no TEAM in Favre!
Nice writing though hopefully it will play in LA. if not ur first script can be DEath of a hasbeen QB
Brett, just wants to screw over the team who made him who he is. He already said that. Why would people want to keep be a Favre fan? I do not think he that good afterall he does hold the most interception record. Let him go somewhere else and may some injure him so he has to retire in a wheelchair. That should teach him and maybe then he will be happy.
Linda
OMFG, held my tounge long enough. the guy wants to play football. thats it. thats all. yes, he screwed the packers, and the packers screwed him. its a 50/50 deal there. what would you rahter have? favre stay with the packers 2 more years and go to the playoffs and lose aaron rodgers and be terriable for 5 years or move on like they did and have aaron rodgers and start the franchise over? as much as i do hate saying this, and i absolutly hate saying this cuz its a game, but ITS A BUSINESS!!!!!!! deal with it. like the website, hate the shirts, love the cause. so if people buy shirts and are going for a good cause, keep buying.
