ANDREW BRANDT HELPS TO EXPLAIN
We have been trying to pass the truth (and have a lot of fun) about the Favre saga (and sell shirts) since early June. Some of you still don’t really believe us that Favre is as much (or more) then the Packers are to blame. Favre did not simply find a new job, as many of you believe. It was much, much more complicated then that. It is why many of us booed, why many of us sold our Favre stuff, why many of us won’t talk to our sons about treating Brett as a Packer Hero. It has very little to do with wins, losses, or stats. We appreciate the 16 years… it was fun, but it is over. And just because he played very well twice against us and beat the Packers arse, really changes nothing.
Here is an article, and in that article a link to a previous article, by former Green Bay Packers salary cap guru and former GB Packer management Andrew Brandt.
He may be the only man on the planet that knows both Favre and Ted Thompson very well.
Good Stuff. Thanks Brian Meltz for the heads up.
HERE IS THE LINK. Enjoy.
P.S. We sold hundred of shirts over the weekend, so a few sizes are backordered. Could take a few weeks to get your orders. About as long as it takes A-rodge to throw the ball. Hey, our first joke about A-rodge ever. Maybe we are finally moving on…

I am Favre fan. This was a good and fair set of articles by a Packer management insider. I don’t get how it helps justify the “Judas Favre” attitude though. In the end, Brandt basically says that the breakup was inevitable, the Packers didn’t owe Brett anything but the Packers should have treated Favre with the respect he earned by being the heart of the Packers for 16 years!
Brett wanted more veterans….if I’m not mistaken, when Favre had his retirment press conference in Green Bay and he cried, didn’t he go to the NFC championship game the year before. He had a f’n Superbowl team right in front of him. Has there really been any decent free agents the last 2 years? I can see if the Packers traded for a Veteran, but there hasn’t been sh*t out there for Free Agents. I’m sorry, but Reggie White isn’t a free agent every year.
I think its all on your perspective. If you are a Favre fan you feel that he was justified for leaving when he no longer wanted to be around Teddy T.
If you are like me, you think that, even though he didnt agree with Teddy T, he should have seen that he did have some new offensive talent. He had defensive playmakers. He should have recognized that Jennings and the new “kids” didnt require that he wait, only that he trust them.
We all have tough times at our “real life” jobs, but if we cut and ran every time a new manager came in with a new philosophy that wasnt exactly like ours, we would soon find ourselves out of work for good. A devoted employee will stick it out and try to work with the new manager (of course this does not apply to harrasment or other things, which im sure didnt occur). Favre turned into a malcontent. He hated Ted’s philosophy and began whining, and started/orchestrated the process of leaving. It was his right, this is America and we all have “at will” employment, but it reflected negatively on his character (in my opinion). Finally, he lied about it. He said he wanted to play with the Pack. Brandt’s article clearly shows that he had no desire to stay with the Packers and wanted out. He should have just said it, worked with his agent and the Pack and got traded. This happened eventually, but not before the etire drama got out of control.
I belive the 13-3 season showed that his talent combined with the new Teddy T additions could be a winning combination. He couldnt or didnt want to see this and started filling out his new applications so to speak. He began the process to move to MN.
Thats why fans like me are angry with Brett. It has nothing to do with his right or his ability. We thought and were sold on the fact (by him) that he was devoted to this team through thick and thin. The team and fans stuck with him through A LOT of “thin”. When it was too “thin” for Brett, he ran. He didnt think he had time to wait, however, he was one interception away from his goal. I know it sounds like “jilted lover”, but being a fan is emotional, its entertainment and people get pi$$ed when they are lied to and feel duped.
Finally, i think a lot of the anger stems from his play thoughout the years. He was great, dont get me wrong, but there were games and playoff games that the Pack should have won but did not because of his terrible play. We put up with it because he was our QB and we backed him up, but now that he is gone, its all coming out. We are booing that he “Defected”, we are booing because of the Rams game, we are booing because of the Cowboys debacles, we are boooing because of the pick in ‘07. Its all pent up and its all pouring out because he is gone, doesnt care and is no longer our QB.
Now, no more Favre posts from me…..i promise, for real this time, wait, no, lol. Cripes, im like Favre…..the horror!!
Lets talk Packers, whats wrong (a lot) with the Packers, and what we feel can fix this mess, bring Packer Nation back together and get back to glory.
1) O-line (is Taushner going to play or what)
Coaching again—-Jolly doesnt feel bad about penalty, and no one said a damn word to him when he walked to the sideline after that penalty…unacceptable
2) 3-4 defense (isnt really making a difference). I wonder if they have the right players to be playing a 3-4, sure doesnt look like it. All I heard in preseason was how fast they were and they will be all over the place raising hell.
3) Coaching Every week I hear, “we will clean things up.” well nothing has been cleaned up, its just been covered up by playing bad opponents. The Vikings proved to the packers that they really hadnt improved at all since the first time they played. The Packers thought they had because they beat up on the Lions and someother crap team, cant remember right now.
4) Special Teams Ahman Green returning kickoffs??wtf, really?? Also, I know Harvin is good but then kick it somewhere else
5) Running Game they ran about 13 times last game. unacceptable
6) Rodgers/offense they are failing to put the ball in the endzone in many instances. THey are failing to get off to quick starts. They are having good drives and not getting points. They have gotten many turnovers in opponents territory and done nothing with it. Rodgers has to be held accountable for some of these sacks. 31 sacks, over 10 more than Oakland, St Louis, Chiefs, etc….I know the line is bad but Rodgers needs to not be afraid to throw for incompletions…..Sundays game, at least 3 sacks were on him
7) Crosy sucks
9) Discipline Bad penalties, inconsistancy
10) offensive line again/coaching—notice in the second half they finally made adjustments by brining a rb over to help on allen. guess what? allen really didnt get in there again….
McCarthy made comments prior to the Vikings game that they were more than ready to play. They said their week of practice was focused on stopping Favre. This should be a huge concern….Favre did the same exact thing to them this game as he did the last game. They may have been ready but they were not prepared. there are so many question marks with this team. They can be a very dangerous team and I seriously think they can beat anyone if they would get issues cleaned up but the issues are very large right now. I guess you could say that about any NFL team that they could beat anyone.
The Packers still have to play Dallas, San Fran, in chicago, in pitt, baltimore, at arizona….they have 3 games they should for win but I am still saying they will finish at 8-8, 9-7 was my prediction in preseason.
not sure how the smiley face got in there…
if they finish 7-9 shit should hit the fan in packer nation
Yeah, I’d have to agree that it was both sides at fault, TT isn’t the greatest people person. Favre, well, he just wanted everyone kiss his ass, and in someway he should be pampered, to a point. There are 53 guys on the team, can’t cuddle them all.
George Young, (NYG)owner, once said, about re-hiering The big tuna as coach: QOUTE’ You never let a guy quit on you twice !
DJ, you have said that damn quote like 10 times now…..
On another note….some interesting points from an article I just read.
Rodgers on sacks: “Both of those, that gives them a little momentum I think, when they get a sack,” said Rodgers. “But I don’t think it really hurt us too much in the overall scheme of things. It just looks bad in the stats column.” WOW, I dont even know how to comment on this…..
I know sometimes they would like to protect a little better and obviously I should have thrown a couple away, maybe.” WOW, again. maybe? maybe? maybe? unreal….This guy is faultless…
Yeah, i read that article in the Journal Sentinel today.
A-Rodge does need to admit he is holding the ball too long. Especially on that first series. He had at least 10 yards of open space and he just flopped over. He could have easily ran for the 1st down, extending the drive and possibly starting the game out up 7-0. That could have changed the game, but who knows. MN was/is on fire.
I’ll grant you that that stupid championship belt thing he does is puzzling. My only thought is that he is demonstrating the “need to play like a champion”. That my Packer glasses positive spin on it. If not, im not sure what it is. I dont think the Packers are champions of anything.
All and all, A-Rodge is good, very good. He is young and holding onto the ball too long, which is probably causing 1/3 of the sacks. This is due to age and the fact that he refuses to throw picks. I love the lack of picks, but a QB does need to take risks every now and then to extend drives and hit big plays. Im not asking for crazy “gunslinging”, but some well calculated risks are needed.
I think he will get there. He needs a little “Moxy” during crunch time, but the future sure looks bright at the QB position……so long as he survives the weekly beatings.
PS….it looks like the NFC pro bowl QBs will be…..Brees, Favre and well it could be Romo or it could be Rodgers (stats will get you tons of fan votes and he sure has the stats). LOL. Man, thats would be ironic if it happened.
Haven’t even thought of the Pro Bowl, but that would be fun and a way for A-rodg and Favre to “get back together”. I have no idea what the WWF style belt thing with Rodgers is all about, but that’s one thing I hope he keeps doing. It gives me something to mock him about.. It’s rather funny to me as the first down antics are as well.
Question. If Favre had only signed a 1 year deal w/ the vikings and retires after this year and technically was a free agent. Would Packer fans, Favre haters, accept him back if ARodge got hurt in week one and was out for the season and they asked Favre to come back?
Nick, excellent question to bring up. I HAVE NO IDEA. I think Favre did sign a 2 year contract correct?? I think the fans (mo matter what they say) would absolutely accept him back but I think TT is too arrogant and would rather start Flynn or Brohm.
Yes he did indeed sign a 2 year contract.
What a way for Favre to return to GB stardom! TT would vote against that option.
Nick…..would you? assuming you are still a Packer fan based on your post.
Dumb Question about Favre coming back because it won’t happen. Remember, after 7 games, the Vikings are the best team he’s ever played on.
The more I think about it, Troy Aikman was right. I don’t think Favre wanted to play for the Packers anymore. And if that was the case, he should have said something instead of retiring if he still wanted to play. TT was just trying to protect him from the sceen that happened at Lambeau on Sunday.
Granted, If Brett Favre retired a Packer, he’d still have people that hated him. However, if he and the Packers smooth everything over, he’s still going to have people that won’t take him back. He’s tarnished his credibility too much.
I promised not to discuss Favre, but this is a different twist and not a discussion on if he is a jerk or not.
Now there is a tough question……….could i overlook my “jilted lover feeling” and bitterness if it benefited the Packers? Could i cheer for Favre again?
Man, I dont know. I mean, technically, I’d cheer for the success of any Packer QB. I just want them to win, I dont care who their QB is.
If he showed a true comittment to the team, like he is for the Vikings now, then yes. My anger is because i feel he was no longer comitted to the team and bailed on us. If he came in and showed that he is “all in”, then yes.
However, he would be on a short rope lol. Kind of like when people take one another back after some torrid love afair..one more mistake man……and its over for good. HAHA
But yes, this would never happen. Unless Teddy T is canned and some new guy was in place next year.
For hypothetical purposes, great question.
If this happened, I would personally be cheering for the Packers, not so much Favre. If he won with us again, great, but he has fallen quite far on my list of players to cheer for.
All of us on the “I hate Favre team” will be faced with this question very soon. Eventually he will retire…..maybe….and he will retire a Packer regardless of our stance. Will we cheer? Will we welcome him back? I am not sure. Unlike the game last week, I dont think there should be boooing at his retirement ceremony. If people are still upset with him, its best to just ignore the event.
Yea I know it won’t happen but yes it was just a hypothetical question.
Nick, the intelligent people on this site understood your question to be a hypothetical one….unfortunately DJ and others have a more difficult time
Change we can believe in-
What makes your comments the only ones that are correct?
Did I say my comments were correct? No I didnt, so shut your mouth when you are talking to me
Well boys and girls, ive stood up for Teddy T and McCarthy longer than most. After today’s game, im off the wagon.
The current Packers team plays with no heart, no fire and are very poorly coached. It starts from the top down. Its time to clean house. There is no excuse for playing the way they did against an 0-7 team. Its amazing they were even somewhat competitve against the Vikings.
Clear it out and start it over. Im done.
Change
You need anger management.
Wow dude.
Goat, Im starting to feel the sameway, something has got to give.
